Bad Hair Day(s)

Mia gets her hair cut at a place that specializes in cutting children's hair. Last week, Sarah took her for a bang trim. This stylist disapproved of the work of the previous stylist. She said Mia's bangs were too wide, wrapping too far around her head. She said it would be more flattering if we let the bangs grow out on the sides. I'm not sure I agree with her. My own haircutter (who, to be fair, has never seen Mia's hair) says that Chinese hair is difficult to cut, but when done properly everything falls naturally into place. If you subscribe to that theory, I think maybe the previous stylist had it right, because now it is just plain strange looking. What I really need is someone who specializes in cutting Chinese children's hair. This is a big town; I'm sure if I put my mind to it, I could find him/her.

Just Another Manic Monday

Sarah arrived Monday morning with a new toy, a kind of squirt gun that blows hundreds of bubbles at a time. Mia loved it, squealing "bubba bubba bubba BUBBBBBAAAA" and stamping her feet in delight. She couldn't decide which bubble to pop first.

Cozy Coupe

Since publishing the photos of Mia in the "Flintstones" car, several friends told me its proper name is the Cozy Coupe. They assured me that this would be a great addition to Mia's toy collection, as she would get many months of enjoyment out of it. This version (technically a Cozy Coupe knock-off) came not only in a very flattering shade of pink, it also has lots of noise-making accessories (horn, radio, etc.). We bought it on the day before our vacation. Since it was raining and I couldn't wait to try it out, we put it in Mia's playroom. She spent hours in it, which made packing for our trip a lot easier. We quickly decided to make it a permanent addition to the indoor toy collection. The only problem is that only the driver's side door opens. Mia doesn't like that limitation, so she is always trying to climb in to the passenger seat through the window. ("To the Batmobile, Robin!")

More Scenes from Summer Vacation

We spent one afternoon with Jeff's parents. It was a lovely sunny day, so we spent lots of time in the backyard. Mia enjoyed popping bubbles blown by Grandpa, smelling Grandma's flowers, and getting a ride on Dad's shoulders.

A Working Lunch

During our vacation, Mia and I stopped in at company headquarters and visited a few folks. (Okay, I shamelessly showed her off to my many co-workers who tell me they follow her childhood here on Blogspot.) We had lunch with Lisa and Dawn. We went to the loudest restaurant I could think of. Mia found the food on Lisa's plate more appealing than her own. Fortunately, Lisa is an experienced mother of a toddler, so she took it all in stride. Dawn didn't seem to mind Mia's antics, either. (I left out all the tantrum photos.)

Summer Vacation

This year's summer vacation consisted of visiting Mia's cousins. They have a pool in their backyard. Mia was pretty tentative at first, but by the end of the week we had our hands full trying to keep her from jumping into the deep end.
